Q: What is mastering?

A: Mastering is the final step in the audio production process, where the final mix is prepared for distribution. This involves optimizing the overall sound and level, balancing the frequency spectrum, and preparing the tracks for their intended playback medium (e.g. CD, streaming, vinyl).

A: Mixing is the process of blending multiple tracks together, while mastering is the final step in the process of preparing the final mix for distribution. Q: How long does it take to mix or master a song?

A: The time it takes to mix or master a song can vary depending on the complexity of the project and the engineer's workload. Generally, a mixing or mastering project can take anywhere from a few hours to several days, It really depends on how much the project needs!

Q: How long will it take for my project to be completely finished?

A: This depends on the engineers workload, and how big of a project you need completed. Oftentimes a project can be started within a couple weeks, and revisions go about as fast as we can get them done, but depends on how many round of revisions we get.

Q: What format should I send my files in for mixing or mastering?

A: Files have to be delivered as multitrack stems or a Pro Tools session for mixing, and a stereo bounce for mastering, unless previously discussed with our team. It's best to send your files in a lossless format such as WAV or AIFF to ensure the highest quality results. Avoid sending files in compressed formats such as MP3 or AAC, as these formats can degrade the sound quality.

Q: Can you mix or master my song remotely?

A: Yes, we offer remote mixing and mastering services. We do most of our work this way! You can send us your files electronically, and we can work on them remotely.

Q: Can you fix poorly recorded tracks during the mixing process?

A: We can certainly try to improve the quality of poorly recorded tracks during the mixing process, but it's important to note that there are limits to what can be achieved. It's always best to try to record tracks as well as possible from the outset.
